Moving

My landlord finally called, I'm getting the keys to my flat a week early, this Wednesday the 9th :D I've been busy organizing all my helpers and my dad rented a transporter van to get all my furniture there on Saturday. I've emptied out most of the stuff now, there's only my nightstand, the stuff on my desk and half a cabinet left to pack up so we can take the furniture apart and ready for transport. My kitchen has also already arrived at the studio I ordered at, depending on when their mechanics' schedule for next week, I might get it early! If not, the 25th November is already saved for me.

Work

has been interesting. I've done a Sunday and Saturday shift now, and it's mostly chill considering we're at half capacity. I'm officially in charge of one of the families living there since last week, and they've taken to the change pretty well. I'm excited for the new ones coming next year, too, very interested in how the whole intake process goes, I've only seen the remnants of paperwork for that so far.

Writing

had to be put on the backburner sadly. I'm close to done with my eldritch!Shen Wei tentacle smut though, it's just missing a bit of the smut and a little paragraph in the ending scene. Got stuck on the altar sacrifice AU which I really wanted to post in October, my brain has been too overwhelmed with new work stuff. It's slowly clearing up though, and I think after the move I'll have more time.

Listening

I ended up listening to a bunch of episodes of the Knowledge Fight podcast towards the end of September/in October, which covers the topic of Alex Jones' spreading of misinformation in very close detail. Mostly I listened to the court cases related episodes, very interesting insight in this sort of right wing extremism, the conspiracy world and the US legal system. If you're interested, I'd recommend the episodes they did with Mark Bankston, the plaintiff's attorney in Texas, and Elizabeth Williamson, author of the book "Sandy Hook: An American Tragedy and the Battle for Truth". Also, I checked out some relevant Opening Arguments episodes, too, and then got sidetracked into their January 6 investigation coverage. Lots of heavy stuff, but I'm just far enough removed that it was more fascinating than dreadful.

(I'm so curious about the kitchen arriving. What does a kitchen consist of? Does it not come with the flat?)

Writing will still be there when the overwhelm has passed. (I know you know this, but I find it reassuring to be reminded, so...)

Re: kitchen, yeah so. The landlord can install a kitchen and have it as part of the rent, but it's become more and more common for a renter to buy a kitchen and sell it on to the next renter. But since I'm moving into a recently constructed building as the first time renter, and my landlord doesn't equip it with a kitchen, it's up to me to buy one. There's some systems where you can agree with the landlord to have them pay half and then pay it off via rent in either direction until one of you is the sole owner, but that's not one my landlord offered so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ on the upside, if I don't want to sell my kitchen on and it fits into my next flat, I can take it with me <.< which I'm highly inclined because it's a) super expensive and b) I love it with all my heart lol

This is such a novel approach to me -- I kind of love the idea, but isn't it super expensive? (I avoid renovations because of the cost, and I feel like this would be similar?)

What does a kitchen consist of -- like, the countertops and everything, or just the appliances, or ??? (Feel free not to explain further. I'm just so curious. *g*)

Appliances and corpus (countertops, cabinets, doors, etc.), yes! And yes OTL it's pretty damn expensive. I didn't have to consider the kitchen economy before, living in shared flats and student dorms and at my parents'/grandparents' until now, it's still very new and wild to me, too :'D and apparently also changing in recent years! so there's that. (the amount of loss you have on a kitchen in the first year is staggering and half the reason I consider taking it with me if I need to move again lol)

Wow! So is there just a skeleton space where all this stuff gets installed? And is there a market for secondhand kitchens?

yes, and yes, sort of? there's also like a market for second-hand electronics (which I wouldn't recommend, they tend to be fritzy and still expensive despite being used) but also like outlets where they supposedly manage to get the price down but get it mostly new? I checked one out but I didn't like the business, no trust in those guys, so I went with what I felt was the safer option <.

It sounds like a system with a lot of pros and cons, and I can really see the pros right now. (I own my house, and the kitchen is verrry old. :-)
