Busy Week Recap
Sep. 17th, 2022 06:40 amPhew, it's been a week! A lot has been going on :')
Friday (the 9th) they called me back. To offer me the job \o/
Ngl, it still hasn't really sunk in. Apparently I left quite the impression? They told me it would take them at least a week to inform me if I made it, and here I was the day after, totally unprepared! I took the weekend to think about it (but really, I started looking for apartments pretty much immediately, so when I called on Monday to accept, I had a couple viewings lined up already). My starting date is on Oct 15th, which is super short-term and is making finding stuff harder.
Except then on Wednesday, the first time I went to viewings -- the second flat was it. I have the rent contract on my desk already! WTF. It arrived in the mail yesterday. I can only move in early November (the building is still in the middle of being build, they're in the end stage but it's already clear they're not gonna make the Oct 31st deadline. My landlord said he'd prioritize my flat getting checked so I can hopefully move in by the 5th, but it might be as late as the 15th.) So my mom helped me look for alternatives for the weeks before that happens, and we already have two or three options lined up. All of this in less than a week! I'm exhausted OTL (so many appointments to set up and then cancel again... hahaha...)
Cultural Differences
Anyway, this whole adventure in applying for jobs brought to my attention that the concept of Social Pedagogy isn't much of a thing out of Europe? Lmk in a comment if you've heard of it before and where you're from I'm curious xD I've been explaining it to my US/Canadian friends as a cross between social and educational work within the mental health field, but I feel like that doesn't quite cover the range while at the same time not being specific enough :')
Also! I created a late gift for
trobadora! I took my first day of some free time to sit down with the WIP and hammered out 2.5k within a day, sent it off to
yantantether for beta and posted it all in one fell swoop. Which really, that's just the sort of feral energy this week's been. I'm very happy how it turned out :D

Employment Stuff
My various applications turned into a job interview on Thursday (the 8th), which kickstarted my Week of Busy. I don't even recall if I posted about it. I meant to? But idk if I ended up doing it. It went well enough, and I ended up obsessing over a handful of answers I gave that I didn't think were good enough, as is my wont. Gotta learn somehow how to do it better next time, right?Friday (the 9th) they called me back. To offer me the job \o/

Guardian Wishlist
The long drives to all my appointments left me with plenty of time to dive into the Wishlist collection and read my way through almost all the fic on offer and check out all the art! Plus checking out some of the writers' other works I've had in my TBR pile forever x'DAlso! I created a late gift for

Huh, I never thought about that myself, but now that you say it ... fascinating!
Also! I created a late gift for trobadora!
Yay! It turned out great! ❤❤❤
And also yay for your progress through the general Wishlist bounty! I'm still not all the way through myseslf. So much amazing stuff!

on 2022-09-18 10:37 am (UTC)Social pedagogy is really hard to explain, I keep stumbling into it! (Mostly because it's the mental health field my bachelor in psychology is suitable for without having a master's degree that's not in HR or advertisements. I wanna work with and for people, not companies! >.<)
I'm super happy you liked the gift <3 And yes, so much amazing! I'm highly tempted to go through the old wishlists next lmao, I know I didn't quite finish last years (and I'm now into more of the adjacent Bailong canons than as a fresh Guardian fan so <.< I'm sure there's a lot of gems in there)

on 2022-09-18 07:29 am (UTC)I don't think any of the education-related stuff I've done in Japan spent much time on social pedagogy--doesn't seem to fit with the general exam-heavy emphasis--but similar stances may have come up in relation to some of the more alternative "free school" options here.
and thanks again for all your wonderful engagement with the wishlist!

on 2022-09-18 01:12 pm (UTC)I think the thing about pedagogy as a mental health field I stumble over explaining is... education is usually assumed to be a children's space. How to raise children, how to teach them, how to nurture them. And while that is a big part of the field I work in, it's also: how do you teach, nurture and help adults? Not just young adults, either, but disabled and otherwise disadvantaged adults. And it's both on an individual as well as a communal level. In that, at least, it's closer to social work, I think. (Tbf I'm approaching the work through a psychological lense, since that's what I studied.)
Wishlist is my favourite Guardian event, hands down :D It's just so full of joy and rich with bounty? <3

on 2022-09-26 11:43 am (UTC)That's fascinating! Thank you for explaining. (In Japan, I feel like all this is happening in the grass-roots, little NPOs of all kinds here and there, but the government education policies are terrible and take none of this into account.)
