I assume one reason they skipped the revelation scene is because they wanted to have a fake-out for the final confrontation, soi it might have been a somewhat jarring skip anyway, but even so there should have been a flashback, dammit!
Very true about fic, though. There is SO much room for fic here! I'm definitely going to be requesting this in exchanges. Probably starting with requesting Li Yunzhen in everywoman, even! Not that there's likely to be anyone else who even knows this, but I can try. *g*
