Oh, for sure! He's such a distrustful man, if he were to wait for 100% certainty, he'd never get anything done. I think it shows whenever he takes a gamble or a risk, he does those surprisingly often - especially when it comes to trusting people (to a certain degree) because they are useful to him (Nick, Meisner - he gambles that they will behave according to their character)
Leaving things a bit vague didn't hurt it at all, and since (obviously) canon!Juliette didn't travel back in time and change things, something had to canon-diverge anyway! So things don't have to entirely align. ♥
